How does the 3D scanning process work?
Our high-fidelity, light-based 3D scanning is completely touch-free and perfectly safe. There is no messy plaster or need to hold your breath. We capture stunning anatomical detail in just seconds using specialized handheld equipment.
Is my data secure?
Yes. We treat your 3D scan data as profoundly personal. Please refer to our Privacy Policy and Data Retention tabs for complete details on how we encrypt and securely store your information offline.
When am I best getting this done or when should I book my scan appointment?
We advise expectant mothers to book scans around the 34-week mark. We can obviously scan up until the point that you are in labour but by booking to be scanned by 34 weeks expectant mothers are at very low risk of missing their opportunity to be scanned.
What happens if I go into labour unexpectedly? What happens if I get told I need to have a caesarean within the next few days?
Contact us ASAP and we may be able to offer same or next-day scanning in these emergency cases but this is not a guarantee. If you deliver before you have the opportunity to be scanned, we will issue you with a full refund.

At Maternal Legacy, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy will inform you as to how we look after your personal data when you visit our website (regardless of where you visit it from) and tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.
1. The Data We Collect
We may collect, use, store and transfer different kinds of personal data about you, including:
- Identity Data: first name, last name.
- Contact Data: email address, telephone numbers.
- Anatomical/Health Data (Special Category Data): 3D scans of your form or your child's form, required exclusively for the production of the commissioned physical artworks.
2. How We Use Your Data
We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal data to perform the contract we are about to enter into or have entered into with you, specifically the creation of bespoke 3D-scanned sculptures.
3. Data Security
Your 3D scan data is profoundly personal. We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way. Scans will be encrypted and stored in air-gapped, offline storage environments.
4. Your Legal Rights
Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data, including the right to request access, correction, erasure, restriction, transfer, to object to processing, to portability of data and (where the lawful ground of processing is consent) to withdraw consent.

Welcome to Maternal Legacy. These terms and conditions outline the rules and regulations for the use of Maternal Legacy's Website and our studio services.
1. The Commission Process
By booking a scanning session, you agree to commission Maternal Legacy to create a bespoke sculpture. The rendering shown on the website is a simulated preview; final physical results in solid bronze or copper may vary slightly due to the artisanal nature of the foundry finish.
2. Payment and Refunds
Payment terms will be outlined during your official consultation. Due to the highly bespoke and personalized nature of our artwork, refunds cannot be issued once the foundry casting or electroforming process has commenced.
Data Retention Policy
Our Core Promise
We will only retain your personal data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting or reporting requirements.
3D Scan Data
By default, your encrypted 3D scans are kept in our air-gapped offline storage for exactly two (2) years from the date of the scan.
As this period concludes, we will reach out to you via your provided contact details to ask if you wish to commission further pieces or request an extension of this data preservation. If no response is received, or if you request deletion, the scan data will be permanently and securely destroyed.
Form Submission Data (Formspree)
Contact and booking inquiry data processed through our website forms is securely transmitted via Formspree. Routine automated deletion sweeps ensure that any sensitive inquiry data is not kept in our active systems indefinitely.
